How do I connect my child's iPad to my home WiFi?

Why was my child's iPad sent home during the closure?

We asked principals to ensure that all student and teacher iPads went home during the closure so that every EPSD9 student had access to a device should we face an extended closure. The uncertainty of additional weeks out of the classroom means we are working on a plan to keep our scholars connected to their teachers and their learning. Having the devices at home was an essential step in making this possible.

For some of our students, this is the first time that the iPad and charger has gone home. We want to assure parents that our philosophy is that while the iPad is home, that parents are the managers of the device. There are several helpful resources on Common Sense Education for establishing family expectations or contracts around the use of the iPad. Visit our district webpage on Family Resources for more information.

What safety measures does the district take with my child's iPad?

Federal Law requires that filtering be in place to protect students from content that might be harmful. We enforce web filtering on student devices, whether or not those devices are on district grounds or a EPSD9 network. Student iPads are filtered with Securly, even when they are off campus on other networks.

  • FaceTime and Messenger are turned off on student iPad.
  • School email for students grades PK-8 is restricted to our domains.
  • The only apps available to students are those we preload in Meraki (our managed “app store” on EPSD9 devices).
  • We are Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliant and have earned Common Sense Education District Recognition for our Digital Citizenship Education program.
