Dear Parents and Patrons of Eagle Point School District 9,

This morning we had a report of a potential threat to our students at White Mountain Middle School (WMMS). As is common, when working with students, it is important to determine if the threat is credible. Our practice at EPSD9 is to take all such threats of violence seriously and manage them as if they were true until it can be determined otherwise. We immediately placed WMMS in a Precautionary Lockdown.

Eagle Point School District 9 (EPSD9) notified the Jackson County Sheriff's Department (JCSD) who immediately detailed Deputies to the school. A team of district staff, trained in our emergency procedures, also went to WMMS as support. WMMS students were evacuated to our track under the supervision of district staff and Deputies while a sweep and search of the school, including lockers, was conducted.

At this time, district staff and JCSD Deputies remain on site. We are continuing to investigate the source of the threat including, if appropriate pursuing criminal charges. As is also our practice, EPSD9 staff will also be conducting a review of this incident, our procedures and our actions to hone our safety practices in the future. The safety of our students is our highest priority.

Respectfully,

Andy Kovach

Superintendent
