Special Services

JCSD9 Special Services Staff

The Jackson County School District 9, Special Education Program strives to support all students and their families who meet the special education eligibility requirements of the 2004 IDEA Reauthorization.

The Individual with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) is a federal special education law that requires school districts to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to eligible children with disabilities.  A free appropriate public education means special education and related services, described in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and provided to children in the least restrictive environment.

Special Education support services are provided in the following areas for students meeting eligibility criteria:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Communication Disorder
  • Deaf/Blindness
  • Emotionally Disturbed
  • Hearing Impaired
  • Intellectual Disability
  • Orthopedic Impaired
  • Other Health Impaired
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Vision Impaired

Jackson County School District 9 Special Education Staff include, but is not limited to:

  • Coordinator of Federal Programs
  • Administrative Assistant
  • Special Education Resource Teachers
  • Speech/Language Pathologists
  • School Psychologists
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Nursing Support
  • Instructional Assistants
  • Specialized Consultants

Special Education services provided directly by the District include:

  • Speech/Language Therapy
  • Resource Room Teachers and Support Staff
  • Psychological Evaluation and Consulting
  • Site Based Classrooms for Eligible Students

Special Education programs provided by the district in collaboration with Regional Programs include:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Vision Impaired
  • Hearing Impaired
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Behavior Consultation
  • Transition Consultation
