Congratulations to EPHS Ford Scholarship Recipients!!

Luis Sevilla served as captain of the junior varsity soccer team for two years, where he led his 2014 team to a nearly undefeated season. Luis played the trumpet in the EPHS Marching and Concert Band. He helped lead the Interact Club, a community service club sponsored by Rotary, where he helped coordinate activities like the Dictionary Drive and White City Christmas Tree Lighting. Luis also dedicated his time to serve as a summer school cadet at White Mountain Middle School, serving as a mentor and tutor to younger students. Luis maintained a 3.92 GPA at EPHS while undertaking a rigorous plan of study. Luis plans to attend University of Oregon to study business with a concentration in marketing. His dream is to work for the marketing or public relations team of an influential company like Adidas, Nike, or any other organization that young people look up to. He hopes to use marketing to send positive messages to teenagers and young adults. Luis also plans on someday creating a marketing firm to help non-profit organizations in struggling communities.

Kayla Nielsen has played varsity basketball her entire high school career, serving as captain her junior and senior years. She helped lead her team to the Sweet Sixteen in the 5A State Tournament both years. She has also volunteered to coach K-8 youth basketball for four years. Among many other leadership positions, Kayla has served as a Link Leader, Student Body Representative, and President of the Honor Society. She has undertaken a rigorous course of study throughout high school and is the Class of 2015 Valedictorian. She plans to attend George Fox University, where she will play on the basketball team. She plans to major in pre-physical education teaching, with a minor in health and mathematics and will pursue graduate school to become a teacher and Athletic Director. In addition to her career as an Athletic Director, she hopes to offer free nutritional classes to the low-income residents of her community.

While at Eagle Point High School, Rebecca Ash has been a part of the volleyball team as well as the Track and Field team, earning two varsity letters and a scholar athlete award. She has participated in air band and been a member of the National Honor Society. Her volunteer work includes service at the Ashland Springs Rotary Club and West Main Church of Christ. In addition to these activities, she has also worked in construction and at Wendy’s. She is a single parent graduating in three years with a 3.917 GPA. Rebecca is planning on attending Southern Oregon University and pursuing a major in the Emerging Media and Digital Arts field. She hopes to use this degree to give back to her community by helping local community service organizations in the use of media and the digital arts to more effectively promote their causes.
