Digital Citizenship

Eagle Point School District 9 realizes the importance of teaching our students how to make safe, smart, and ethical decisions in the digital world. The ISTE Standards for Students indicators for digital citizenship will serve as a framework for developing these skills:

•Students will cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and be aware of the permanence of their actions in the digital world.
•Students will engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices.
•Students will demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property.
•Students will manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of data-collection technology used to track their navigation online.

Direct instruction will be provided to K-8 students throughout the school year using Common Sense Education and Nearpod. Students in grades 9-12 will engage with digital citizenship lessons in a variety of formats.

Additionally, our schools will share with students' families how they are taking a Common Sense approach to digital citizenship and teaching with technology.  For each of our student lessons, there is a family component. These are available in English and Spanish. We have included the Family Tip Sheets to the three basic lessons for each grade level below.
